Fort Washita In South Oklahoma

Fort Washita In South Oklahoma

Some time ago we visited Ft Washita. They were actually having their annual Fur Trade Era Rendezvous. It’s a great event where reenactors recreate what a fur trade rendezvous would have been like on the early western frontier. Trappers, traders, mountain men and others held cooking demonstrations, showed off their goods, told stories and there were games too.

Fort Washita is open to the public and free to tour. Established in 1842 in what was then Indian Territory, at the time it was the southwestern-most military post of the United States.
